Hungarian Beef Goulash (Instant Pot)

Hungarian Beef Goulash in a bowl over egg noodles

Do you have an Instant Pot? I have the best recipe for Hungarian Beef Goulash that is so flavorful, can be prepared in a little less than an hour in your Instant Pot, and your kids will actually love it!

“Can you cook this again next week, Mom?”, my 16-year-old son begged! I was apprehensive while preparing dinner for no apparent reason! Telling the kids, I was making Goulash but skipped the “Hungarian” part of the name. I believe it’s because my kids have a hard time with meals like Beef Stroganoff, and I wanted them to try it at least once!

Again, no idea why I was so hesitant to make this for my kids. They all loved it and went back for seconds!

Easy Beef Goulash Recipe!

My mother first introduced me to Hungarian Goulash when I was a child. I’ve always liked it! We traveled to Disney World and Epcot when I was a teenager. Epcot used to make a fantastic Goulash that we enjoyed! My mother returned home determined to perfect that recipe, and she succeeded!

What spices are used in Goulash?

Paprika adds vibrant character to beef dishes, enhancing the flavor to a nice rich and bold, earthy tone. Seriously, it is to die for! Paprika is meant for beef dishes in my experience!

Do you put sour cream in Goulash?

This dish, like our Stroganoff Recipe, is prepared without the use of sour cream. My kids prefer it without the sour cream.

The beautiful part about this recipe is sour cream can always be blended into a single serving, as it’s not meant to simmer on the stove as it would curdle.

Simply stir in a dollop of sour cream before serving, If that is how you like it!

How to serve Hungarian Beef Goulash

It is a saucy dish that we like to serve over egg noodles. Mashed potatoes, Smashed Baby Potatoes, Easy Hasselback Potatoes with Garlic Butter, rice and crusty bread to soak up the sauce are some other options to try!

Also, potatoes and carrots could easily be added to the recipe!

Notes

Because of my children, I use a sweet Paprika rather than the smoked variety. Please use what you see as fit for your family.

Thanks for the recipe. I made the Hungarian Beef Goulash. It came out great. I followed it just as you had it except at the end I put in your cream instead of the slurry. It’s really good.
    Thanks for the recipe.
