Beef Poutine Fries with Gravy is a deliciously indulgent comfort food that may appear sloppy at first glance, but in actuality is an organized mess of french fries, cheese, and gravy! If cheese fries are your jam and you also enjoy gravy then this dish is a must-try! It’s basically a gravy and cheese fry recipe with meatballs!
Is Beef Poutine Fries with Gravy a meal?
It most certainly can be! These days you can find it on food trucks or as an appetizer at numerous restaurants around the United States. It’s the perfect mindless recipe for an easy appetizer or as the main course on the nights you just need something simple to make when craving comfort food!
Time needed: 25 minutes
How to make Beef Poutine Fries with Gravy
- Pull out the leftover gravy, frozen French fries, frozen meatballs and then open the cheese drawer and retrieve the cheese!
Cheese curds can be found in the fine cheese section of most grocery stores. Some smaller grocery stores may not stock them. In that case, another cheese such as shredded mozzarella, cheddar, or cheddar-jack can be substituted, or you can experiment with any cheese that you enjoy! I normally have cheddar and mozzarella in the cheese drawer and use them in this recipe in place of cheese curds.
- Preheat the Oven
Lay the french fries and meatballs on a baking sheet in a single layer to cook evenly using the cooking instructions on the package. Alternatively, the fries can be deep-fried in oil on your stove-top or using an air fryer.
- Make the Gravy or heat left-over gravy
If serving with left-over gravy that is frozen, be sure to allow time for it to defrost. Then heat in a saucepan on the stove on a lowish heat setting until hot. Our Gluten-Free Beef Gravy is what we use and can be made in about 20 minutes or less!
- Combine the ingredients
Layer the cooked french fries in a shallow casserole pan or another oven-safe dish such as a cast-iron skillet. Then add the meatballs and cheese before pouring the gravy over the entire dish.
- Bake in the oven
Bake in the oven at 400° for 7-10 minutes or until the cheese melts and then serve!
The Roots of Poutine

It’s a Canadian Food that I’ve heard is served at some McDonald’s restaurants in Canada. How awesome is that? However, I question how good the gravy might be! Let us know if you know anything about this because it’s certainly very intriguing!
What type of Gravy is used in Poutine?
This Canadian food classic is typically served with brown gravy. That being said, a mushroom of chicken gravy would work nicely too!
